On Saturday, March 28th, Sunset Lodge was proud to honor Most Worshipful Larry L. Adamson, Grand Master of Masons in California and a Past Master of Sunset Lodge with a formal reception.
The festivities began with a wonderful banquet attended by approximately 150 members and guests. As Most Worshipful
Adamson had designated this weekend as his official event in Southern California, Sunset was pleased to host the majority of the Grand Lodge Officers serving in 2009.
Following the meal, Most Worshipful Adamson, Most Worshipful R. Stephen Doan, Past Grand Master of Masons in California and Teri Doan (representing Most Worshipful David R. Doan, Past Master of Masons in California) unveiled a commemorative wall which was installed at our lodge to commemorate the Masonic achievements of our distinguished members. Absent was Murray Cooke, Past Grand High Priest of the General Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons International.
Most Worshipful Adamson was escorted into the Lodge Room by our Marshal, Brother Mike Messina, and the Order of DeMolay presented the flag. Worshipful Ricardo Garcia, Master of Sunset Lodge, hosted the reception as Master of Ceremonies. The Very Reverend Timothy Wood, Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of California, delivered the benediction.
Following musical performances by Vaso Gountoumas (accompanied by Dolly Balin) and Brother David Neal, our Senior Warden, visiting dignitaries were introduced.
Most Worshipful Adamson gave a very emotional speech in which he expressed his gratitude toward Sunset Lodge and the esteem in which he holds our membership. He reflected on the Masonic Achievements of our membership, Sunset being the only Lodge in the History of California to send three members to serve as Grand Master of California in a period of less than twenty years.
Following Most Worshipful Adamson’s speech, presentations were made to the Grand Master. Worshipful Jack Newton presented Most Worshipful Adamson with a brick from the original Palms-Adams lodge building that was destroyed by earthquake, which was a very sentimental moment for Most Worshipful Adamson. Priscila Garcia made a presentation to Lynn Adamson, and Worshipful Garcia, assisted by Worshipful Lionel Rhuman, presented an extraordinary display case to our Grand Master on behalf of our Lodge.
Most Worshipful Adamson then presented the lodge with a beautiful limited edition artwork copy, number 3 of 200, of his chosen symbol for his year as Grand Master. Following the reception, this beautiful piece of Masonic Art was placed in our library for the enjoyment of our membership.
It was a wonderful evening of Masonic Fellowship.
